Human Rights and Responsibilities

We Believe:  The Catholic tradition teaches that human dignity is protected and a healthy community is achieved when human rights are protected, and responsibilities are met.

Scripture Tells Us:  In Proverbs 31:8: “Open your mouth on behalf of the mute, and for the rights of the destitute.”

“We must speak of man's rights. Man has the right to live. He has the right to bodily integrity and to the means necessary for the proper development of life, particularly food, clothing, shelter, medical care, rest, and, finally, the necessary social services. In consequence, he has the right to be looked after in the event of ill health; disability stemming from his work; widowhood; old age; enforced unemployment; or whenever through no fault of his own he is deprived of the means of livelihood.” -St. John XXIII, Peace on Earth

  • What are the questions that really matter to me?
  • What violations of human rights are prevalent in our community?
  • What appropriate actions am I willing to take to correct injustices?
